To identify archaeological starches and phytoliths, we rely on comparison to modern plants. We take hundreds of reference photos per plant, and prepare written descriptions to aid in the identification. It remains challenging to share these widely, but as a first step, we are sharing an excel spreadsheet in which you can see which plants we have examined, whether we were looking for starches or phtyoliths, which plant parts were studied, and whether we found starches or phytoliths in the sample.
